University of Centre Lancashire has announced that on Thursday 7th May, students will be able to pay to spend a few minutes playing with cute puppies to "relieve stress".
Students will be able to pay £1.50 to spend time in a "puppy room" in order to relieve the stress of exams and deadlines. The move, part of the union's Stressed Out Students (SOS) campaign, aims to raise £500 for charity.
The room is fully booked and there is a waiting list, but at The 9am Lecture we decided to find out if this would work on most students, and what their current tips for getting rid of stress are.
Sam, a 22 year old psychology student from Oxford, raved about the idea, saying, "I love dogs! I went to Crufts this year in March, when I had a big deadlines approaching, and I think it really heled me relax. When I came back I could just focus on m essay."
Not all the students The 9am Lecture spoke to were such big fans though, with Laura, 21, telling us, "I like the idea as a fundraiser for charity but, as a cat person, it's definitely not for me."
Her top tip for getting rid of stress is actually someting many students see as the scourge of their degrees: "I honestly think Netflix is the key to my degree. If I'm stuck on my essay I stick an episode of whatever series I'm watching, and when I finish I find myself in a different headspace, with a new perspective on my work." This may not be for everyone though, as she stresses, "I suppose this only works as I'm quite good at stopping after one. If I wasn't, like a lot of my friends, this would be terrible advice!" Earlier this week, Nottingham Trent based music producer ATDHE told The 9am Lecture that making music helped stop getting overly stressed at about university work, claiming, " If I'm feeling overly stressed on a piece of work then I'll spend a couple of hours on a track, or likewise if I'm having a writers block I can go and concentrate on some uni work."
